Bio:
Abigail Saguy’s current research examines how different conceptions of “gender” have been used to promote the liberation of women, gender nonconforming people, and transgender people. It examines tensions and conflicts within and between these different liberation projects and considers how they may be reconciled.
Dialogue Experience, Expertise, Activities:
Abigail C. Saguy is a Professor of Sociology at UCLA and a member of the inaugural faculty fellows cohort of UCLA’s Dialogue across Difference Initiative. As a Faculty Fellow, she developed structured dialogue practices that help students with different perspectives engage in respectful conversation with one another around gender. She was the first UCLA faculty member to implement Sway, an AI-assisted dialogue platform that pairs students with differing perspectives and provides guided conversational support. She is also a member of Heterodox Academy at UCLA.
